JAMBO THE LAND CRUISER

Year, Make , and Model

1985 Toyota Land Cruiser HJ75 Troop Carrier (TRAKKA Bushman).

Country of origin: Australia

Mileage: 486,000 Km

Powertrain

Power Unit: Toyota 12H-T 4.0L, six cylinder turbocharged diesel engine. Originally from Japan, this JDM engine was swapped into our Troopy in June of 2018. In it’s stock configuration of 7PSI of boost, the 12H-T puts out 134 horsepower. We have upgraded our induction system with a Kinugawa wastegate actuator allowing us to push approximately 11.2PSI. This extra bit of boost enables us to climb the majority of 7% grades at 55MPH without downshifting. (273,000 Km)

Gearbox: Toyota H55F 5-speed manual transmission (300 Km)

Transfer case: Toyota dual range split transfer case (300 Km)

Note: We recently did a full drivetrain overhaul, replacing our original transmission and transfer case with fresh OEM units. We worked with The Fit Garage and Cruiser Outfitters throughout this process.

Chassis

Tires & Wheels: BFG KO2 33x10.5x15 on powder coated Wheel Vintiques. The 15” wheel provides a tremendous amount of sidewall and the dark gray powder coat has been color matched to the engine valve cover and intake plenum.

Suspension: All four corners are running Old Man Emu heavy duty parabolic springs and greasable shackles with vintage Koni shocks. Sway bars have been removed and allow wonderful articulation of the axles over rough terrain. Our heavy duty suspension is rather harsh in all but the most extreme cases as we rarely carry a heavy load. Unlike many vehicles of this age, our Troopy handles well on the highway and requires minimal correction.

Pop Top Conversion

TRAKKA of Australia converted this Troop Carrier - likely around 1985 - to a pop top camper known as a Bushman. Much of the conversion has been changed or removed, however the camper remains along with their logo being proudly worn on the rear body panels. The pop top was most recently refurbished and modified by Alex at The Fit Garage. The most significant modification was made to the geometry of the sleeping area; a new wedge shape provides comfortable sleeping space and an adequate cooking area.
