AFTER BLOWING THE HEAD GASKET AND RUNNING AWAY, THIS DEFENDER WAS IN NEED OF REPAIR. IT WAS BROUGHT TO US FOR A FULL ENGINE REBUILD, RUST MITIGATION, BODY PANEL REPLACEMENT, AND CLEANING UP THE WIRING.

When the 200Tdi head gasket blew between the #4 cylinder and the exhaust pushrod channel, it allowed oil to enter the cylinder and caused a runaway. The engine instantly redlined as oil was sucked into the combustion chamber and ignited while the owner cut off the diesel fuel supply in hopes of stemming a meltdown. Unfortunately, the Defender uses a fuel cut-off switch in the injection pump to kill the vehicle. When the key was turned to the off position, diesel was no longer being delivered, but oil and air were still flowing into the cylinders. Without the ability to cut off airflow, the engine ran until the oil pump ran out of a supply.
